The 353rd Tactical Fighter Squadron is part of the 354th Tactical Fighter Wing, first activated in 1942.  During the Second World War, the unit engaged in combat over Germany as part of the Ninth Air Force.  Assigned to Tactical Air Command in 1956, the 354th TFW is currently under the command of Col. Francis S. Gabreski, who holds the USAF's highest score for any living fighter ace.  The unit is based at Myrtle Beach AFB, South Carolina, and is currently operating the F-100 Super Sabre.
